Fine things deserve to be kept in a fine place. This two-drawer cabinet handmade from select cherry wood and spalted maple beckons to hold your finest things.

Designed to rest either on a dresser in the bedroom or on a buffet in the dining room, the top drawer includes dividers that can be reconfigured to hold jewelry or your finest silverware. The bottom drawer is large enough to hold lingerie for the bedroom or fine linen for the table.

The cabinet is approximately 25 inches wide by 13 inches deep by 7 inches high and weighs a little over fifteen pounds. The drawer interiors are approximately 23 inches wide by 10 inches deep, although the removeable drawer divider reduces the depth by a quarter inch. The interior of the top drawer is 1-5/8" high, and the interior of the bottom drawer is 2-3/8" high.

The drawer faces are cut from a single piece of spalted maple displaying characteristic streaks of color and fine black lines. The case of the cabinet is cut from a single plank of solid cherry. The wood has been resawn to barely 3/8 inch thick and is book matched so that the pattern of the grain in the wood is mirrored from front to rear. The cherry has been joined by hand cut dovetails at the sides, top and bottom. The grain of the wood carries up the side, over the top, and down the other side as a continuous piece of wood. Over time, the cherry will darken in color to a rich, reddish brown. Nothing has been stained.

The cabinet rests on two thin pieces of cherry set back from the edges to give the appearance that the cabinet is floating. The bottom drawer opens without hindrance.

Two bowties cut from spalted maple have been laid into the left side of the cabinet to arrest a split in the cherry.

The upper drawer slides on hidden drawer runners. Both drawers glide on zero-friction polymer tape adhered to the wood runners. The drawer bottoms are made from solid basswood cut in the traditional manner to allow for wood movement. Basswood, pine and poplar are used as secondary wood for the drawers and cabinet back. No plywood has been used in the piece.

The case has been finished with Osmo, an environmentally safe hard wax/oil blend.

This cabinet is my own design. I made it in my shop using hand powered tools and a few small shop machines. There can be no other cabinet exactly like this one.

Additional photos are available upon request. Jewelry and table service not included.

It is my hope that this piece will daily please your eye as it keeps your finest and most delicate things.
